I cannot say I felt your pain,
For it would not be true.
Could not imagine, much less feign
This strange kinship with you.
I could not close my eyes and see
Myself devoid of her.
The somber surreality
Of memories when we were.

One man, one woman, husband, wife
Together in our prime.
One love, one flesh, two souls, one life
In the same space and time.
And yet it was because of this
I felt as I now feel.
A sorrow from some dark abyss,
As deep and no less real.
And as I look into the sky
And tears begin to flow,
I know the reason why I cry:
It is because you know.
