Today in Ancient History – Al Dente

On this day in ancient history, Sept 2, 31 BC:

Famed Roman politician and general Marcus Antonius, better known as Mark Antony, and Cleopatra VII, the last reigning queen of The Republic of Egypt, were defeated at Actium.

After faking their deaths and undergoing reconstructive surgery to change their most recognizable features (Cleopatra’s nose and Antony’s lisp) they were placed in the witness protection program and smuggled out of Egypt. They eventually settled in California where, after changing their names to Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, they made a fortune playing themselves in one of the most expensive theatrical productions ever released.

And that’s the way it was!
